    Demolition target for 2016 increases to 350 houses

    The Asbestos Response Taskforce today released an updated Indicative Demolition Schedule revising the targeted number of Mr Fluffy demolitions from 200 to 350 this year. Head of the Taskforce Mr Andrew Kefford said the target reflected the current efficiency of the demolition program and was good news for former owners seeking to return to communities to rebuild.

    Taskforce marks two years of operation

    Today marks two years since the formation of the Asbestos Response Taskforce. The Taskforce was created on 25 June 2014 by the ACT Government to provide a coordinated and compassionate response to managing the issue of Mr Fluffy in our community.

    Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher, has announced the rollout of high visibility tags in meter boxes for Mr Fluffy homes in Canberra to make it easier for tradespeople to know when they are working on a house which contains the loose-fill asbestos.

    The ACT Government has announced an assistance package for households affected by Mr Fluffy asbestos, Chief Minister Katy Gallagher announced today. The package includes immediate financial assistance, access to support and counselling services and the bulk purchase of asbestos assessments for the Mr Fluffy homes.

    Assembly passes bill to purchase Mr Fluffy houses

    The passing of the Loose Fill Asbestos Appropriation Bill today in the ACT Legislative Assembly will allow the first houses to be purchased by the ACT Government by Christmas, ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher announced today.
