Assisted Private Demolition
Following the receipt of advice, in February or July 2014, of the presence of loose fill asbestos in their home a small number of owners spoke to the Taskforce about progressing to a solution by privately demolishing their house ahead of any announcement about what, if anything, the government would do to assist.
These homeowners were given assurances that they would not be disadvantaged if the government subsequently instituted a program of assistance to other homeowners.
The Assisted Private Demolition Policy provided guidance for the owners of homes which were demolished between 18 February 2014 and 28 October 2014 or were subject to a legally binding contract to demolish entered into between 18 February 2014 and 28 October 2014.
Affected homeowners were only eligible for assistance where:
- they were the owner of the affected house on both 18 February 2014 and 28 October 2014; and
- they had either:
- demolished the affected house under a binding contract to demolish the affected house entered into after 18 February 2014 but before 28 October 2014; or
- entered into a binding contract to demolish the affected house between 18 February 2014 and 28 October 2014, which remained current as at the date of application.
Applications closed on 23 April 2015.
